Day one, I rise with an alarm clock. Oh sweet Jesus, I have a job. A job. A real. live. job. Straying from the norm, James has to work during the day today and for the entire week. I think some higher being made this all come together because somehow it was known that I would need a little extra help adjusting. I’d need someone to make sure I got out of bed. Someone to force me to eat breakfast. Someone to iron my skirts. Yes, he rises without hesitation, he cooks my meals and because he knows I will probably put an iron-shaped burn on everything I own, he presses my clothes. I am a child.
Aside from actually landing a job, I’m thrilled about the date. It’s May 21st. I’ve never started a job in May, but man, I recommend it. Starting a job while the weather warms up, while the light comes out early and stays out so late, it just makes the transition from unemployment to employment seemless. Children should start school in May. Companies should only hire in May. All babies shall be born in May from this day forward. Amen.
I decide that I’ll play it safe the first week and alter my wardrobe to mirror that of my coworkers. After two days I realize there is no way I could possibly mirror the style of my coworkers and will instead live in a uniform of pencil skirts and blouses until fall arrives.
In the winter, when I was dressing for work, I wrote this post ”Building a Wardrobe.” This line from the post still rings true:
I believe in a wardrobe made up of safe neutrals and statement pieces. This combination will ensure that you have lots of choices, always look unique, but are always dressed well. Ready? Set… Go.

yeah girl. you’re looking hot.
amen.
hot! I never get the hot comment.
I so agree with spring being the best time to start a new job! My first day was April 23, getting up with the sun felt right/normal/natural. Keep up the good outfit work!!! Love it! xo L
Thank you, Lindsay! It doesn’t hurt that the weather has been gorgeous either…
Adorable! My two top favorites are you in the yellow top from Marshalls and number one is you in the white dress from Loft. You are killing it! Do people still say that? I know they say super cute! So, super cute! Super awesome!
People totally still say “killing it” and you used it perfectly!
I’d like a clone of your closet, but in my size to magically appear in my closet when I get home. Please.
Maybe if we both make a wish at a fountain before midnight, it could happen!
Hmm… My favorite is the Loft dress too and second is the orange flowered skirt
Don’t worry they’re in the car to come home tonight!
HA I’m wearing the jcrew striped skirt today
I bet you look beautiful! That H&M dress I picked up Saturday doesn’t fit. Sad.
depressing – I want to go back and get that romper I put down
i love that zara top. paired with anything. amen.
i can’t wait for the day you DO get caught taking pictures of yourself in the bathroom. i’ll be on pins and needles until it happens!!
do you remember I was with you when I bought it? I’m sure you do. If I get caught, you’ll be the first to know.
You pull off pencil skirts flawlessly!
…. And I love, love, love the mint jeans!
Oh thank you! I was in the market for mint jeans for so long but this pair was pretty cheep so I went for it.
I didn’t realize I should be changing my phone case like I change up my accessories! Too funny. Love all your styles, especially the Zara top.

Erin

I think I just became a fan of the whole you working a real. live. job. thing, because I love seeing your outfits. I’m totally that nosy girl who wants to know where everything you’re wearing is from! I love all of your picks!! Wish we shared the same closet.

we’re a perfect match. I’m that TMI girl.
I don’t think my husband even knows how to turn on an iron let alone iron my clothes for me. Lucky you!
You look pretty fab in all of your outfits for work! Let us know when you get caught taking pictures at work. I bet that will be amusing!
I am pretty lucky! But the other side of that coin is if my clothes are wrinkly, he calls me out on it. You’ll all get a full blow-by-blow of the embarrassing day, when it comes.
In love with your Zara top! My summer work wardrobe consists of Express Pencil Skirts (every color and pattern made), summery, pretty tanks and an open sweater on top. so predictable, so simple.
but cute and classy no less! miss you.
Congratulations on your job Jenna! But what is it?! Or have I missed something here….
Hi Debbie! Thank you! The job is just a new full-time gig! No exciting details there.
Love that Zara shirt!
Thank you! I got it in December… wish I could find a link to it.
