Love at First Sight: A Blogger Blind Date

5:45 pm. Finally

A day I’ve been waiting for since our first online meeting in May.

I hurried across the street, took the red line to her hotel.

My heart was racing. How do I look? Is this outfit okay? I should have shaved my legs.

But then…

When she stepped out of the elevator…I knew. I knew right away that the redhead in the nude Jeffrey Campbell wedges was CupcakesOMG.

I knew mainly because I follow her blog, am Facebook friends with her and am almost as familiar with her face as I am with my own.

But regardless, there she was.

In real life!

Same pretty hair, perfect make up, flawless skin.

No craigslist killer attributes whatsoever!

We, without planning of course, wore a complementary color scheme.

We hopped in a cab and headed to Sibling Rivalry, a restaurant in Boston that pretty much does the same exact thing that TwoFaced does.

Two brothers, Chef Bob and Chef David, provide their own menu. Each appetizer and entree is centered around a shared ingredient.

She says “sCALlops”

I say “sCALLops”

She says “y’all”

I say “wicked”

We both say “bagel” as “bagel”.

We both like iced tea and lemonade vodka drinks.

We both like being photographed.

Oh, and both of our middle names are Dawn.

We stopped talking for 3 seconds to order.

We shared the Prince Edward Island Mussels to start

A girl after my own heart, Melissa ordered Chef David’s Grilled Sirloin Steak with Goat Cheese

I ordered Chef Bob’s Spit-Roasted Half Chicken with Goat Cheese

We laughed, we drank, we ate.

We told our entire life stories.

We now have 145 inside jokes.

REAL ones. Not just online ones.

We were having so much fun, we almost forgot to get a picture together!

But don’t worry, I could never forget to do that.

We shared a cab, posed by the Christmas tree in the Omni Parker House for this year’s Christmas card, and parted ways.

It was perfect.

And thank GOD…. because I’m staying at her house next weekend in DC, and that could have been wiiiiicked awkward.

Have you ever been on a blind date!?

TwoFaced: Kale

This week’s TwoFaced secret ingredient is kale!

Have you ever eaten kale?

I can honestly say up until a year ago I had never heard of, seen or tasted kale. I am not a picky eater by any stretch. If anything, I’m an indifferent eater. If I don’t know about something, or if it’s not easy to come by, I tend to forget it exists.

That’s how I feel about kale.

Or felt.

Because last night, I made the easiest, most delicious side dish to go with our haddock.

And at the root of it all, was kale.

Dark green, fresh, crisp kale.

Now kale is on my radar.

Paleo Kale-o Bacon

1 bunch of fresh kale, washed and ripped into small pieces
3 strips of uncured, nitrate-free bacon, chopped into 1/4 inch pieces
1/2 lemon
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 cloves of garlic, minced
large pan for sauteing, preferably a wok

Directions

Place wok over medium heat, add 1/4 cup coconut oil to pan

Add chopped bacon, let it cook for 3-5 minutes

Add kale, garlic, lemon juice, the other 1/4 cup coconut oil

Sautee for 8-10 minutes until bacon is thoroughly cooked and kale is crunchy

*Alternately, you can pre-cook all your bacon, then separately sautee the kale. After removing from pan, crush up the bacon into bits and sprinkle into kale. I think the flavors from cooking the kale in the bacon juices add to the deliciousness, but you can decide.

Now go see what CupcakesOMG cooked up with kale….

And also, I’ll let her reveal the exciting TwoFaced news.

Have you ever cooked with kale? What are your favorite kale recipes? Now that I know I love it, I need more!

Photo Challenge Day Twelve: Close-Up

Sorry for the delay in my 30 day photography challenge… but I’m glad because I just got this ring on Saturday and if I had gone according to schedule, I wouldn’t have been able to share it with you.

This is my favorite color.

I bought this ring at Bobbles and Lace for just $20.

To follow along with the rest of this challenge, go to the 30 Day Photo Challenge Page in the Features section.
