Four Fall Trends for 2012

There’s so much to love about the fall, the food, the holidays, the way staying in bed all day seems alright. But mostly? I love the fashion.

Detail

I have two words for you this season: Elbow. Patches. I want to buy every sweater in every store that has them, and then I want to sew patches onto every sweater I already own.

Color

I don’t know when or why it started but maybe it’s because I literally eat mustard everyday? I just want mustard colored clothing. I want it on my nails, I want a hat, I want a little skirt and some tights. I definitely don’t want to wear it all together, I just want to wear at least one piece of mustard clothing a day.

Lip

The day before Paris, I spent my last six dollars on a lipstick called “British Red” wishing it said “French Red” but decided it was good enough. I wore it all week in the city of light. I had never worn red lipstick before. Following that trip, I’ve worn it almost every day. It makes me feel brave and I think it will make you feel brave, too.

Shoe

And last, but certainly not least, because what is your outfit if not finished off with a fun fall shoe? High heeled oxfords. Preferably the close-toed, lace up type. I  personally love this look paired with solid tights. I want to pair brown oxfords with dark green tights. Black with maroon tights. Camel colored shoes with cream colored tights. AND SWITCH. The possibilities are endless. ENDLESS.

By the way, they have that Banana Republic elbow patch shirt in mustard yellow. I know because I just bought it and am OBSESSED.

You are going to look so cute this fall! I look forward to your self-portraits in each new garment.
I have already worn all four of those trends. It was the eighties, the nineteen-eighties! and I was in my twenties – like you are now. You should wear all the red lipstick you want now, because when you are older it won’t be as pretty. I loved my hounds-tooth suits, my mustard yellow wrap tops, my lace-up oxford pumps, and a few elbow patches. Oh, and I was rocking that perm really hard. Take lots of pictures and then put them somewhere so you can look back on them in another thirty years when they are back in style!
P.S. You didn’t mention them, but walking suits were super hot, too. Knee length shorts with a matching jacket, worn with tights and heels…to work! Top it with a swing jacket on a chilly day, and you are stylin’ !

LOVE the lipsticks. My question is are you able to apply it in a manner that keeps it off your drink and off of your boyfriends face? I have the problem that when applying it just doesn’t last.. Any secrets?
