About Paleo

Paleo, in the shortest description, is a diet consisting of meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts and healthy fats. No dairy, no sugar, no grains, no legumes, no vegetable oils, no peanuts, no caffeine. Essentially, living like a caveman or cavewoman. The following are guides I follow for this lifestyle. The first image is the “Paleo Food Pyramid” and the second is the “Paleo Food Matrix”.

There is a lot to learn about Paleo. I’m still learning. I’m learning as we speak. That’s what makes this a project, because its not a blog to teach people, its a blog to document how I’m teaching myself. James and I eat eggs, for one. A lot of people say no to eggs, others say you can eat some. For us, we want eggs so we’re eating them. We aren’t personal trainers or nutritionists or chefs. We rely on the internet and books for almost everything. In compliance with Robb Wolf’s The Paleo Solution we are teaching ourselves everything about what we put into our body. From buying, cooking and eating food to sleeping exercising and drinking. I need all the guidance I can get.ย I don’t know about you but I wasn’t born with an inate knowledge of which ingredients will go well with others; and even after a lot of research, I still need to use my blackberry iPhone at the grocery store to find out if something is off limits.

Everyone is different. I love that about people. Some of my friends are vegetarians, others are vegans, one friend doesn’t eat any gluten while one will eat anything you hand her. Food is about choices and being informed and making your own decisions and this blog is just my way of figuring out what works best for me. If anything, I hope you can just enjoy my daily mishaps in the kitchen and my c grade photography.

The Whole9Life Manifesto series has been a huge help for me along my Paleo journey.

Jenna I’m in love with this blog. It’s addicting so please keep writing! And the photography is really good. You should think about becoming a food stylist on the side. Miss you!

    Jenna,

    Jenna,
I have been eating Paleo for a few months now, still trying to figure out what’s “good” and what’s “bad”! It’s sometimes hard to explain this to my friends, who like some of your friends, eat anything in front of them! I in fact used to be that friend! I choose to begin Paleo for me and my health. Your blog is great, and helps me explain to my friends, or who ever else questions my choices, simple and quick! No long explanations here! Thanks so much and I will be reading often!

Aw, Janelle! Thank you so much for your sweet words. I absolutely aim to show people that you don’t need to be super athletic or nutritious, or super anything to read this blog. I’m glad you like it. XO Jenna

We can not eat completely Paleo as humans have changed virtually all eco systems to some extent. To me this means that I just have to think about what is available now that will be an acceptable match to go along with what we are trying to do. Suffice to say that I am not an evangelist but adhere to the basic principles. I DO feel better without wheat.
